Tommy Lee-5-1024x1024Lee was born Thomas Lee Bass October 3, 1962 in Athens to David Lee Thomas Bass, an American U.S. Army sergeant and Vassiliki Papadimitriou as a contestant at the 1957 Miss Greece beauty pageant (Greek: Basilike Papademetriou). Athena the younger sister of his, is also drummer. Lee was just two years old when his father decided to move his family to California. He also got his first drumsticks when he turned four, and the first drum set at 16. Lee dropped out of high school in order to pursue music as a career and began with Suite 19, a L.A.-based group that was a club. In his teen years the band played Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Cheap Trick, Kiss, AC/DC and Sweet. John Bonham, Tommy Aldridge and Alex Van Halen were his primary drumming influencers. Terry Bozzio was also an influential influence.
